When you have experienced an incident that has resulted in loss of your important data, it is hard to know where to turn. Whether physical trauma to the machine is responsible or a virus has done damage to your hard drive, your files and data are suddenly inaccessible and you don’t know what to do next, and you should call on Data Recovery Services but how to choose data recovery services. Here are some tips for you

Free evaluation:

The service provider should offer a free evaluation of your case. This means, they should analyze the problem and suggest a solution without any obligation. As a customer, you should not feel obligated to hire their services.

All types of recovery:

Data recovery services should be of all types. This will ensure that you do not have to run around from pillar to post. All types of recovery should be possible under one roof. Typically, a service provider should offer RAID recovery, hard drive recovery services, Apple MAC recovery, Laptop recovery, server data recovery, database recovery, file and email recovery, and so on.

Pricing:

Be wary of the companies that advertise flat-fee pricing. Typically, it is not possible to have a flat fee structure as each problem is different in its gravity and severity. Cases may vary greatly in complexity.

Success rate:

Check the past performance of a company before hiring their services. If there is more than 90 percent success rate, you can trust them completely. This is the highest percentage of retrieval. You can be sure that your data is in secure hands.

Privacy:

Data recovery services should place emphasis on the privacy and security of your data. When you hire such services, there is a risk of identity theft and information breaches. Your data should be handled confidentially. It is important to check the security measures adopted by the data recovery service provider. Check their confidentiality policy before hiring the services. This would ensure that your data is in right hands.

Check testimonials:

As a precautionary measure, it is a good idea to check testimonials of their clients. This will give you an idea about their level of satisfaction. Login to their website and read through some testimonials. You could also check the history of their previous clients.

Most computer users don’t need any recovery software until they mistakenly delete some file or when computer crash corrupts the file system. Unfortunately, they react by launching web browser and start searching for free data recovery software. And when they find something promising they install it only to find out that the lost file is not recoverable anymore.

The problem lies in wrong approach and lack of understanding of how files are stored. Every file or folder is stored as some data on the disk. This data is further organized into clusters and sectors. There are also tables that list all the files on the disk and also tell where their data is located. When a file is deleted only the flags in the table are changed to mark it as deleted. The locations where the data belonging to the file is stored are released to the system as free locations. But all the data remains there. Because of this it is possible to recover deleted files but only until some application or operating system overwrites these locations. In order to prevent writing over deleted files we need to avoid all activity on the target disk.

If the file we would like to undelete was saved on the system disk (disk where the operating system is located, in Windows this is usually disk C) we need to be particularly careful because system may write to the disk even without our knowledge. Therefore the best approach would be to immediately shut down the computer and do the recovery process on another computer. This approach requires disconnecting the hard drive from our computer and installing it in another one.

If the deleted file was saved to some other disk then we can try to recover it on the same computer but still we need to be careful not to reduce our chances for recovery. We should be aware of the fact that many applications create temporary files and any action could damage deleted files. The ideal approach would be to run undelete software from a removable media (USB flash disk or CD) and scan the target disk for deleted files. This way only minimal action is needed which maximizes the chances of file recovery.

To be prepared when we will need to recover some lost files we should have a rescue CD prepared and stored somewhere close to the place where we work. Preparation of such disk is very simple. Find a suitable recovery software for your file system and put it on a CD or flash disk. You never know when it will save you time and money.

Only with the introduction of Internet, we were able to communicate with the other end of the world by transferring digital messages in the form of emails. But due to an increase in the number of data theft and phishing scam cases over the Internet today, these emails are not secure. So, in fear of facing a probable identity theft or any unauthorized access of the emails, people usually set passwords to their mail accounts. But pertaining to the fact that there could be a number of hacking attempts on your mail accounts, the passwords set are usually complex. As a result, people tend to forget their passwords. To overcome such situations, you need to go for mail password recovery through a reliable third party utility.

People generally have a number of accounts on various email clients, such as MS Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Netscape Communicator etc. As a consequence, they usually end up messing all these passwords in their memory. They are unable to recall these passwords when they are required to access the confidential data stored in their emails. In such circumstances, only an email password recovery software may provide some relief.

These software are capable of recovering domain names, passwords, and user names for various email clients such as MS Outlook, Windows Live, Outlook Express, etc. They recover mail password and save them in a separate text file. They ensure a safe recovery of your lost mail password in each and every situation.

Outlook uses .pst files called Personal Folders for storing information related to emails, contacts and other personal data. If the .pst files are corrupt, you will not be able to access any information from Outlook. Corruption of .pst files can be caused due to the following reasons.
corruption inside the pst file header
corruption of.pst files when used over a network
corruption caused while compacting
corruption caused due to pst file size limit of 2 GB
corruption caused by defragmentation

How to identify.pst file corruption When there is a corruption or damage to the pst header you will not be able to open the mailbox folder or other data stored in Outlook. The system will also give error messages such as Errors have been detected in the file. Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool.” To make Outlook functional again you need to repair Outlook. Outlook repair using inbox repair tool One of the best ways to repair Outlook is by using the inbox repair tool called scanpst.exe. This is a default program that gets installed when you configure Outlook. The file is usually stored in ‘C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemMSMAPI1033′. If you are not able to access this you can search for this file using the search or find option. (Click Start> Select Search or Find option> type scanpst.exe). This tool is very helpful in Outlook repair. However, sometimes the repair tool will not be able to repair Outlook completely. If the repair tool is not successful the other option to repair Outlook is by using Outlook mail recovery software. Outlook repair using Outlook mail recovery Outlook mail recovery is an efficient software that can be used to repair.pst files for Microsoft Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2007. In addition to dealing with all corruption scenarios the dbx file software can be used to recover deleted emails, contacts, messages and any other information from Outlook. It also supports repair and recovery of fragmented data from Outlook. Fragmentation usually occurs due to incomplete recovery of data by other data email recovery software. Other features of Outlook mail recovery include capability in recovering password protected.pst files, compressed encryption and high encryption files, and it can recover large attachments. The product comes with very good customer support, it is easy to use and moreover you can assess the capability of the software by evaluating the demo version of the software.

Microsoft Outlook uses .pst folder to store all emails and relevant data. Whereas Outlook express uses .dbx files to store email related files. The emails stored in these program are susceptible to data loss due to many causes like accidental deletion of emails, deleting emails using combination of Shift+Delete keys, emptying the deleted item folder, due to virus attack, corruption inside the .pst file header, corruption caused while compacting, corruption due to defragmentation, due to 2 GB .pst file size limit etc. In such cases you will not be able to access your inbox or emails. The system will also give an error message like ‘error been detected in the files’.

Micro soft Outlook has an inbuilt application called inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) to repair .pst files. This application gets installed when you configure the Outlook. Usually the files are stored in ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033′. If you are unable to find this you can also download the file and save it in location mention above. However, sometimes the inbox repair tool will not be able to repair Outlook completely. Don’t worry there is an option to perform email recovery by using good recovery software.

How to choose a good recovery utility?

Search the internet for good email recovery software which recovers deleted emails from Outlook and Outlook express respectively. Before finalizing the product check whether the application can recover .pst or .dbx files. The utility should recover even attachments and data from various data loss situations. Download the free trial version of the software to check the capability of the program in recovering email files.

- Connect the hard drive to a healthy system
- Install the application to the system.
- Run the software to perform email recovery.
- Follow the instruction and restore the deleted emails.

There is a practical way to prepare for such an eventuality is to find the best file recovery software for your needs.

You can find a number of file recovery software products on the internet. There are freeware recovery tools that you can download into your computer.

Choosing the right ones is easy. There are experts online who could help you make the right choice. If your computer systems are more complicated than those home-use computers, it would be best to consult with a data recovery specialist.

It might be dangerous for you to do the data recovery yourself. When a file is deleted accidentally from your computer, the space it used to occupy does not necessarily get occupied right away.

It is in this state where the freeware data recovery tool can work to restore your deleted file. When this space is used up by another program or file, it would be impossible for you to restore your old file. This is the reason why experts do not recommend that you undertake file recovery on your own unless you are equipped with the right tools and the right information on how to go about salvaging your files. Gathering all the information you need to guide you in data recovery is a worthwhile exercise in itself.

Most businesses that rely heavily on computers and the files and programs they contain would do well to have a data crisis plan. This plan should include standard procedures on how to handle computer glitches that compromise your data. Even small businesses should have a data crisis plan. Data recovery should be undertaken in a careful yet timely manner to prevent disruptions in your business.

Not being prepared for things like this will cause your business some amount of financial loss, both from your business not being able to operate as it should and from the service fees you have to pay the consultants to restore your files.

Taking advantage of these freeware to manage data recovery for you would cut your costs significantly. For smaller sized computer systems and files, you can actually backup your system in an external device or at a remote location.

More and more sites nowadays are offering online file backup service to allow you to recover your files faster and easier. Check out your options for the best file recovery software and protect yourself from data loss now.

Though you are systematic are well organized in copying data, and erased the files once you make certain the backup from Mac computer, you can even lose data if the copy of the data that you have made is not working properly. You should be always cautious while making the backup, if not it could unintentionally be the reason for data loss. Make sure that you have taken the backup data to a functional external storage device like CD, DVD or hard drive. Ensure that you dive out the portable device in a safe manner.
